WEEKEND UPDATE: #FEF, Feminist Talk, Open Mic
Dear cherished members,
How is it December already?! And pretty well into it too. It's been a heck of a year. So much to be grateful for, reflect on, learn from, and motivate us for even more activity in 2018.
We've got a great weekend ahead, exciting news to come, and much to be thankful for with recent donations and connections. Read on~
First off, our events!
DEC 8th 4pm -9pm
emale Excellence Fridays #FEF! (Event)
Join our ongoing women and girls mentorship and study program. If you're all about goal-setting and accountability with your self and others (or would like to be!) come down to the library for a productive work/study session.
DEC 9th SATURDAY 4pm-6pm
Asian Women for Equality Presents Zoë Goodall (nf)
AWCEP hosts Feminist scholar Zoë a discussion on policies on prostitution in Australia and Canada. All library members are welcome and encouraged to attend.
DEC 9th SATURDAY 6pm-10pm
Come for the feminism, stay for the entertainment! Our second open mic to date - sign up begins at 6 with the first performer on at 7pm. All are welcome - don't be shy! We have an incredible community of supportive, kind individuals who will hold space for whatever you wish to share.
DEC 10th SUNDAY All Day
Holiday Cards & Crafts
We will be making cards to thank our donors at the library all day if you'd like to bring some materials to join us for some arts and crafts.
DEC 11th & 14th Monday & Thursday 6:30-9:00pm
Be sure to reserve your spot for Deb's writing workshops coming up. Each one we have had the pleasure of attending has been moving and powerful. Even if writing or sharing or even talking is not your thing, there is something in holding space together with gentle guidance for a common goal - whether that is to survive grief, touch your intuition, or gain courage from chaos. Highly recommend for this time of year where pressure and tensions can rise.
And now, for the exciting news - we are planning a holiday potluck dinner at the library for all library members and volunteers!! Please have your say for dates in the link above. Everyone must bring a plate or bowl, cup, and utensils for their own use - to reduce waste. All are encouraged to bring any spare blankets, coats, and socks to share with members in need and local women's shelters. All members and volunteers, old and new, their partners, friends, family, loved ones, are all most welcome!!
eep your ears to ground too for February/March 2018 - we will be celebrating our one year anniversary in a big way in collaboration with Tayybehh, to fundraise for both the Women's Library and Aboriginal Women's Action Network!! Out of town members and supporters, we will be in touch as soon as we have a better idea on the date - we would love to celebrate with you all too!
Last but not least, our heartfelt thanks to:
ll who come out to make our Spanish Storytimes possible - the families! Mariana, Ana, Simon, Xanat (still one more session left December 17th!) Ángela and Alba for their continued support and visits to our Spanish Storytimes! (We are planning with Ángela to bring you yoga for kids in Spanish for 2018!!!)
Lea for her kind encouragement and offer to help with our fundraising efforts, and Sera for her recent e-transfer donation that was sorely needed. Thank you so much.
Katie Lingley and Julie Lingley for our brand new mini fridge!!! This is something we have needed since we opened in this space and will make such a difference for the comfort of volunteers and members.
hank you women! And thank you for reading!
We will be messaging you once more early in the week with the launch of our Patreon page!
In the meantime, if you are able to, or know someone who can donate, please consider making a contribution - no amount is too small. We are volunteer and donations powered. All funds go directly towards rent, utilities, and providing programming and services for women and girls.
With much love, gratitude, and excitement!
See you between the shelves~
